Pioneers History Dance Festival 2015

Pioneers History Dance Festival is back! Running over three days from the 25th - 27th September 2015, this will be our third year celebrating and educating the history and evolution of dance and hip-hop culture.

Taking place in the heart of Brixton, across three fantastic venues, our programme will feature:

  • Exclusive dance workshops with Meech (France), Paradigmz (UK) and Motion Dance Collective (UK)

  • Panel discussions about Entrepreneurship in dance and hip-hop, featuring leading industry professionals

  • Film documentary premiere screening of Yo! To the Twilight Firm and documentary preview of
    Under The Influence 

  • Dance, DJ, Beatbox and Rap performances including an open-mic

  • Welcome party and all styles dance contest with secret judges, cash prize and showcases

  • B-Boy Documents Exhibition
  • Freestyle jams

THE JAM 2.0

L.A.B and PHD are proud to be collaborating for the first time to bring you a night of Hip-Hop history and dance. Joining forces, we will be screening an exclusive short documentary of A Way of Life, exploring the impact of Hip-Hop culture around the world, followed by the L.A.B monthly jam.

Come get funky and experience the essence of Hip-Hop and dance culture!

Marjory Smarth Fundraising Jam

Pioneers History Dance,  B.Supreme, Indahouse and Pieces Of House will be collaborating to fundraise in memory of one of Hip-Hop's foremost pioneering dancers, Marjory Smarth. This fundraising jam serves to celebrate her life, achievements and legacy - all in the spirit of dance!

A Member of New York's pioneering crews Dance Fusion and MopTop, Marjory inspired thousands across the globe with her unique style, expression through dance and passion for life. As her saying goes "Live True Dance Free" - her motto that she lived every day of her life. The Marjory Smarth Foundation has been set up in her memory in New York City and our aim is for the UK dance community to raise as much money as possible towards this important foundation. Come down, dance, jam, share and help us fundraise in memory of a remarkable woman who has contributed so much to dance around the world.

100% of proceeds will go to MARJORY SMARTH FOUNDATION: 
This foundation was founded to cultivate and support the international arts community via annual events and local initiatives focused on the core principles by which Marjory Smarth lived. To be the vehicle for artists to discover and find one’s TRUE self through the expression of the arts.

Hip-Hop Special

Following the success of our Hip-Hop Special last November in collaboration with Click.Play.Rewind, we'll be teaming up once again to bring our audiences a night of pure unadulterated Hip-Hop! This night is FREE ENTRY, kicking off at 7.30pm - 11.30pm...

Featuring DJ Oliver Sudden spinning the best in Funk, Soul and Hip-Hop, we'll be opening the night at 7.30 to give the dancers amongst you the chance to come down, jam and get funky. Then at 9:30 we'll be bringing the heat with 3 illustrious MCs, followed by an open-mic cypher hosted by the stylings of Benny Diction - as always, before you hear them everywhere, you'll hear them here!

Pioneers History Dance Festival 2014

Hip-Hop Dance Intensive with Loose Joint

Learn the roots and evolution of hip-hop dance from a true pioneer of hip-hop dance. New York-based dancer Loose Joint (founding member of Elite Force Crew) will feature at Pioneers History Dance as his UK debut, sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience in the dance industry, having worked with artists such as Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey and Missy Elliott, to name a few. He will deliver hip-hop dance, freestyle and intensive choreography workshops as well as a historical seminar with rare footage.
